Charles J. "Charlie" Garcia is the Chief Executive Officer for Garcia Construction Group, Inc. (formerly GM Construction, Inc.). He began as CEO in 1989. Garcia was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 1994 by Ernst and Young, and Small Businessman of the Year in 2000 by the SBA. Garcia has won numerous awards such as: Madame Walker Spirit Award 2002, Whitney M. Young Award 2003, IRMSDC Supplier of the Year Award 2000, Regional Construction Company of the Year SBA 1994, Growth 100 Award Indiana 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999, and Center for Leadership Development Entrepreneur of the Year 2004. Garcia's greatest contributions, he says, are his efforts to mentor aspiring entrepreneurs. The mentoring program he developed has been adopted by the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce to assist minority and women owned businesses to grow at rates of 20 to 60 percent. As a founder of the Indiana Hispanic Scholarship Foundation, Charlie has helped increase educational opportunities for first-generation college students.
Charlie's directorships and trusteeships included Butler University, Marian University, University of Indianapolis, Ivy Tech College Presidents Advisory board, Bank One (Indiana), Fifth Third (Indiana), Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Chairman of the board of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, St. Vincent Health, Crossroads of America Boy Scouts, and Chairman of the board of the Challenge Foundation Academy Charter School.
Garcia's company recognitions included the Indianapolis Business Journal recognizing Garcia Construction Group, Inc. (as GM Construction) as Indiana's third largest minority-owned business in 2002 and 2003, and continually to being listed in the top 25 companies in Indianapolis. Born in San Francisco, CA, Garcia attended College of San Mateo, and graduated from the Way College of Biblical Research. Garcia attended Butler University, and has graduated from Dartmouth University, and University of California, Los Angeles Executive Programs.
