Sandy Eisenberg Sasso is rabbi of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis where she has served since 1977. She was the second woman to become a rabbi and was ordained from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1974.
Rabbi Sasso lectures at Christian Theological Seminary and Butler University. She is a past president of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association, has served as president of Gleaner's Food Bank and served on numerous boards. She is the author of many articles and nationally acclaimed children's books dealing with issues of spirituality. Two of her books, But God Remembered and A Prayer for the Earth, were selected as best books of the year by Publisher's Weekly. Her newest book, Abuelita's Secret Matzahs, was published in Spring 2005 and she writes a monthly column on religious and spirituality issues for the Indianapolis Star.
Rabbi Sasso is the chair of Spirit and Place, an annual festival in Indiana celebrating the Arts, Religion and Humanities.
